The American Philatelic Society offers philatelic-related material
translation service for over 30 languages through the Translation
Committee staffed by member volunteers.
Items such as letters, cancellations, inscriptions on stamps and FDC
cachets may be translated. Most requests (short translations under 250
words) can be done without charge. Longer translations may be available
for a nominal fee. The late Dmytro Bykovetz, Jr. chaired the APS Translation Committee since 1976. He has supervised the translation of approximately 1,700 requests, ranging from a simple message on a postcard to a 200-page book. Mr. Bykovetz recruited qualified translators to volunteer on the Translation Committee. Over 120 philatelic linguists have served on the committee over the past 3 decades. A beloved philatelist and linguist, and the recipient of the 1990 Luft Award for Outstanding Service to APS, Mr. Bykovetz passed away in February 2008. On August 13, 2008, Bobby Liao, was appointed as the new Chairman of the American Philatelic Society Translation Committee by the APS Board of Directors at StampShow 2008 in Hartford, Connecticut. Mr. Liao is a life member of the APS and has been a volunteer translator for the Translation Committee since June 2003. |
